Early Internet Marketing
by Paul Fasel on Feb.20, 2009, under The History of Internet Marketing
Since the origin of the internet, techniques for marketing via the web have developed dramatically.
In the early days, the way to get a site known was to have it listed in a print directory or internet “yellow pages.”
Next came the first search engines. Before Google there was Yahoo, Alta Vista, InfoSeek, Lycos, and HotBot, most of which were quickly superseded by newer and better technology.
Understanding this background helps one see how dramatically and quickly new technologies changed the way business is done in the new communications era. Consider how ahead of the curve a business would be if it understood the use of search engines while its competition was still paying for listings in print internet directories.
